Apply for a Grant

You can apply for a Grant if:

  • At the time of applying you're 25 years old or less.

  • You're living in, studying or undertaking musical activities in Kent or Medway. Is your home address or your place of study within the boundaries of Kent or Medway?  You may also qualify if you undertake musical activities in Kent or Medway but live outside their boundaries.

  • You're an instrumentalist, singer, composer, producer or song-writer. We value all genres and styles of music equally.

  • Your family are on a lower income. We assess whether you are eligible through a simple process in which the Trust assesses the financial need of an individual. This requires the disclosure and assessment of a family [or student’s] annual income and expenditure. However, usually you will be automatically eligible, if:

    • You are on Free School Meals

    • Your family receive Universal Credit or any other benefits such as: Child Tax Credit, Housing Benefit, Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance [JSA], Income-related Employment and Support Allowance [ESA], Working Tax Credit, Incapacity Benefit, Personal Independence Benefit [PIP], Pension Credit [Guarantee Credit].

    • The total income (before tax) of any parents/guardians/carers in your home is less than £30,000 a year.

What about musical talent?

Yes, we're looking for musical talent but talent looks like many things. You're on your own musical path and we want to hear about it. Show us that:

  • You already show promise;

  • you have the potential and passion to take your music to a high level with the right support;

  • you've made great progress with whatever music education you've had access to and you now need support to take your next steps;

  • you love what you do and have ideas for how you want to develop as an artist.

A few more details before you get started:

  • Grants are awarded to young musicians who are showing talent, promise, commitment to studying music and need financial support for music tuition, ensemble activities, courses, instruments or music.

  • If you are under 18, the application form should be completed by your parent or guardian.

  • The application is anonymised (names and addresses removed) by the Grant Secretary before it is reviewed by the Trustees, to preserve confidentiality and privacy for the applicants.

  • Grants are generally given to students currently receiving tuition in music and do not usually exceed £500 per applicant, per academic year.

  • The Trust Secretary may contact you to ask for further information and/or documents to support your application.

  • If your application is successful, we may contact you to hear about your progress and to ask for your help in promoting the work of the Trust.

  • By completing the grant application form you are confirming that you have read and agree to this data protection information.

Information Needed to Complete the Form:

We estimate the form will take 30-40 minutes to complete. It is probably easier to do it on a computer rather than a mobile phone.

You will need:

  • Information about your monthly or annual household income and expenditure

  • The young musician's latest music qualifications and grades. This is not a prerequisite but is a way we can ascertain skill and dedication to learning.

  • We would like audio recordings of the applicant's music making, without their names being mentioned in the  recording. These can be provided when you submit the form or a week or two afterwards, by email.

  • Please provide a reference from a music teacher if the young musician has one. These can be emailed up to two weeks after you submit the form but your application will not be considered until we've received this from you.

If you require further information or support to complete the grant application form, or have questions about the information and eligibility, please email: secretary@kamymtrust.org

Typically, once we have all the required information, grants take 2-3 weeks for a decision to be made.
