Trustee & DSO -
Andy Millest

Andy Millest studied Music at Sheffield University before going on to teacher training at Cambridge University (Christ’s College).  From 1990 to 2016 he held the post of Director of Music at The Rochester Grammar School where the Music Department continues to contribute greatly to the school’s fine reputation.  In 2004 RGS became one of the first two schools in the UK to gain specialist status for Music.  Many of his capable students have gone on to music-based careers.

He conducted the Kent County Junior Choir from 1999 to 2020, plays cornet in the Gillingham Salvation Army Band and directs the Gillingham Songsters. From 2016 to 2020 he had the joy of working part time with the wonderful students at Abbey Court, Medway's school for students with severe and profound learning difficulties. Then, since September 2017, he has helped establish and run The Music Man Project Kent (MMPK), which gives people with learning disabilities the opportunity to learn to play and sing together in weekly sessions, and to perform locally and at major venues (such as at the Royal Albert Hall).  Current regular membership stands at over 170 musicians.

Andy is also a trustee of Medway Shelter and Support (formerly known as Medway Night Shelter). His personal best at the Great Lines Parkrun presently stands at 24min 48sec.
